NEW HAMPSHIRE COUNCIL OF CHURCHES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Executive Director will work closely with the NHCC Board of Directors to develop a continuing vision of the organization and expand the Council’s role in the State. He/She will be integral to implementing a strategic plan to bring new energy and life to the work of the Council – increasing a spirit of unity and ecumenism within the member judicatories and local churches. The position is based in Pembroke, NH, but requires travel throughout the State, including attendance at some evening and weekend events. This is currently a part-time position, but the Board is open to negotiating the possibility of making it a full-time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster Christian unity and ecumenical relationships
  • Advocate for the Council’s public policy positions, as appropriate, and develop community partnerships
  • Represent the Council at local churches and regional gatherings of church bodies
  • Implement the policies of the Board
  • Working with Board members to raise funds for the work of the Council
  • Work with the Board to develop and implement a strategic plan for the Council
  • Help the President and the Board to direct the work of the Board
  • Meet on a periodic basis member judicatory leaders
  • Attend all NHCC Board meetings
  • Maintain the day-to-day operations of the Council
  • Maintain regular contact with local congregations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree with higher education degree in theology or related field preferred
  • Ordination or commission or religious profession preferred
  • Knowledge of church polity and organizational structures and the not-for-profit sector
  • Active membership in a New Hampshire church community preferred
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with a capacity for vision and demonstrated leadership skills
  • A self-starter, highly organized, creative thinker
  • Committed to ecumenism and church unity
  • Experience with communication technology and social media
