As the individuals under orders of supervision checked in at Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Manchester, she accompanied them as translator, pastor and friend who rallied support from the congressional delegation to the governor’s office.

For her tireless efforts on behalf of the community Rev. Sandra Pontoh is Foster’s Daily Democrat Newsmaker of the Year for 2017.

Recognizing the needs of the immigrant community and the myriad rules and regulations to which its members are subject, Pontoh brought together leading immigration experts at a forum in March attended by about 200 people.
